Super Bowl LIII not so Super!

Super Bowl LIII not so Super!

Pretty much every American and half the Earth’s population knows that Super Bowl LIII is over and that it was… well, let’s put it this way: it was lackluster. Sub par. Not the best ever.

But for this dog, it was still the Super Bowl.

I must state at the outset that I wasn’t neutral. I’m a Patriots fan. I’m first-and-foremost a Bucs fan, but I’m not the kind of dude who thinks that you must love the home team and hate the other 31! I’ve never been of that mindset.

I like the Pats for two main reasons: the first is that they’ve achieved a level of excellence that is unmatched in this history of the NFL.

The second is that my family lived in Cape Cod when I was just a wee lad–basically my kindergarten and first grade years–and those two years were pure magic! I’ve adapted quite well to my sub-tropical existence here in Florida, but I’d go back to Cape Cod in a heartbeat if I could pull it off.

So yes, I was pleased with the outcome even though the game was a bit of a yawner. And no, I don’t like Tom Brady’s outlook on what’s happening on the political scene. It’s an issue. But I can plainly see that he is–by any measure–the greatest quarterback of all time.

All-in-all, the 2018 NFL season was good. We saw Patrick Mahomes explode into superstardom, Drew Brees had a stellar year at the age of 38. Some of the playoff slots were contested right up until the final whistle of the regular season. It was a memorable year. I’ll take it!

And as far that usually-super but this-year-not-so-much contest that capped off the year: yeah, I’ll take that too! The Pat’s defense proved that it’s much better than anyone thought, Brady’s the GOAT and we can all anticipate another top-shelf, amazing, hell-yeah, Super season come September!

Oh yeah, the final score was 13-3.

But you knew that!

Yes, It’s September and Football Season Is Starting!

Yes, It’s September and Football Season Is Starting!

I always associate two awesome things with September: the arrival of (slightly) cooler temps and the start of football season.

College football is underway already. This is the first full week of football and tomorrow is a monster game that I’ll be watching no matter what else is going on in the world: FSU and Alabama! It’s gonna be a barn-burner, for sure!

The Pros have been in preseason but starting on this Thursday night, it’s all for real! The Pats and the Chiefs kick off the REAL season on TNF and I’m gonna be tuned in for sure!

I hope you’re enjoying September’s arrival at this moment and that you’re looking forward to good things as we wait for the official arrival of Autumn in about three weeks. We’ll get to see the mercury drop and the hopes of Tampa Bay Buc’s fans rise! Well, that’s the plan, anyway!

Damn! The Bucs Lost! But This Could Be the Cowboy’s Year!

Last night’s contest between the Bucs and the Boys was well worth watching. You saw two QB’s who are going to have very impressive, if not Hall of Fame, careers. The Buc’s Jameis Winston had a good outing but Dallas rookie QB Dak Prescott was on fire! He set a new Cowboy’s season record for TD’s by a Quarterback with six and couldn’t miss his receivers; he went 32 of 36 for a stunning 88.9 percent. And it still was a very competitive game that wasn’t decided until the final 25 seconds.

This one made me proud to be an NFL fan! This season has been a damn good one and there’s still a lot of unknowns as far as the playoffs. I believe only three teams have punched their ticket so far, so there’s plenty of suspense here in the last two weeks of the regular season.

Hope you guys had a fine weekend. My vacation begins today, I’ll be cooking my eggs and grits on a Coleman stove at a state park for the next few days. Looking forward to that! And, yes, I’ll be watching Monday Night Football in my tent tonight as I’ve got a power pack with AC capability! See ya when I’ve had enough tromping around in the woods!

The Tampa Bay Bucs Are Still in the Chase!

The Tampa Bay Bucs Are Still in the Chase!

The Bucs are still in the chase for the NFC South Championship! As of this writing, the Bucs have won five straight and are tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the lead in the NFC South; both clubs have 8-5 records with three games left in the regular season.

If you weren’t tuned in for yesterday’s 16-11 thriller over Drew Brees and the Saints, it’s your loss! I enjoyed every minute of this one. Jameis, Doug Martin and wide-out Cameron Brate sparked the offense and the Buc’s D shined brightly, as it so often does; three interceptions of Drew Brees is a BFD and it really sealed the win on Sunday.

The three teams the Bucs will face in the closing weeks of the 2016 season are the NFC East leading Cowboys, then the Saints again and finally the always-dangerous Panthers.

Ol’ Bulldog is not going to say the division is a lock, but it’s great to see that they’ve got an excellent shot. Jameis Winston is all that and a bag of frickin’ chips and I’m quite sure the Bucs organization is still thinking that taking Jameis no. 1 overall two years ago was a damn good pick! He shone brightly in his rookie season and is doing quite well now in his sophomore outing. It does this long-time fan’s heart good and it’s just one more reason why the 2016 NFL season has been a good one.

The overall playoff picture will look much clearer after next week’s contests; for now I’m content that those of us who’ve followed the Bucs from  Day One are feeling good as we get into the last few weeks of the season.

And, if you also follow FSU, it’s very cool to note that place kicker Roberto Aguayo — another illustrious former Nole — has pretty much broken out of that freshman slump. Some fans have soured on Aguayo, as the organization used their 2nd round pick to get him, but I’m quite sure Roberto will have a long and good career in the NFL. Good to see these two FSU alumni tearing it up on the gridiron right here in the Sunshine State!

If you’re a Bucs fan too, and you missed it yesterday, here’s a link to the highlights. Well worth a look even if you did catch it in real time.

My recipe for a damn good Autumn Sunday afternoon: Bulldog, burgers, Bucs and Beer!
